Warsaw South Elementary School

Last week, South Elementary 1st Graders celebrated World Kindness Day with a kindness-focused ELA Unit using the text "Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed." Students took part in several kindness challenges, including making thank you notes for community helpers, posting kind words of affirmation around the school, sending cards to Mr. Warstadt, writing positive messages on the sidewalk in front of the school, and much more! Students were able to apply their ELA and writing skills to put kindness into action, and learned the value of paying it forward. #WildcatExcellence #WorldKindnessDay

Last week, South Elementary Teacher Mrs. Porterfield got to attend the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. This was a professional learning experience provided by the Sonic Foundation and Warsaw Sonic group. The Ron Clark Academy (RCA) is a highly acclaimed, nonprofit middle school. The Academy has received both national and international recognition for its success for creating a loving, dynamic learning environment that promotes academic excellence and fosters leadership. We are celebrating academic growth in our district! 🎉 According to the Evaluate Assessment that is taken monthly to track students’ understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards, we have seen successful growth in the month of November: ✅12% Growth in Mathematics (this includes significant growth in multiple grade levels taking the assessment!) ✅6% English/Language Arts (this includes growth seen in EVERY grade level taking the assessment!) Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Shannon Deckard, shares, “Big changes start small. We are proud of our students and staff for their dedication to learning. In honor of Veterans Day, South Elementary 1st graders conducted interviews to learn more about veterans and the important role they play in our country. The students were so excited to interview family friends, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even parents that served in the military. Students were given the opportunity to share their stories with classmates and reflect upon their interviews. It was a great learning experience for our students. In addition to interviews, the first graders created artwork to honor veterans. #WildcatExcellence #Honor #Service #Gratitude

South Elementary Pre-K students had a surprise visitor from Superintendent Mr. Gemes during recess on Friday. There is always time for fun in the day, especially when it means you get to brighten the students' day! #WildcatExcellence

South Elementary students in Mrs. Alcantara’s class used their knowledge of magnets to race cars. They used magnets to get a car to move 10 feet the fastest (without touching the car with their hands)! The winner was Lilly Domer with a time of a little over a 8 seconds. 🚗💨🧲🧭 #WildcatExcellence

"Sometimes the thing our students need most right now has nothing to do with what's on the lesson plan" -unknown These counselors are the glue that helps keep our students together! They recently had the opportunity to further their education at a school counselors conference. They continue to learn so they can best care for our students. #WildcatExcellence
