In celebration of Veterans Day, the South School first graders learned about the branches of the United States Armed Forces and the importance of honoring our veterans. We were so excited to host Mrs. Brandy Mull, the Technology Director for the Warsaw School District, as a guest speaker. She spoke to the firsties about her 20 years of service in the United States Air Force and answered questions from the students. Our classes were so impressed with her stories and loved the pictures she shared. We are so grateful that she was able to join us!

South Families,
South students grades 2nd - 5th will be having a school-wide reading challenge from November 7th - December 15th, using the reading assessment program Accelerated Reader. Students will read books and then have to pass comprehension quizzes to count toward their total word counts. Programs such as Accelerated Reader dramatically help improve students' reading comprehension skills. We hope that these incentives get students excited about reading and increase the time students read at home and outside of the classroom. Please encourage your students to be active readers!

Students from Mrs. Redd's first-grade class at South School had 'a hand ' in creating this bulletin board for our annual Red Ribbon Week.

Please join us at the South School PTO Carnival, this Saturday from 11:00 - 2:00.

Mrs. Beasley-Schmitts's class at South School has been working on a project in my classroom that is multifaceted…we started by writing a story/sentences about “if it lived in a pumpkin”…then we switched to math and did some estimating. The students had to choose the size of their balloons and then estimate how many strips of paper it would take to cover them. Then students converted their balloon pumpkins into the “pumpkin house” that they wrote about. The students really enjoyed this project!

First graders in Mrs. Collins's class have been working hard on passing their iReady lessons! They received a pumpkin party for filling up their iReady incentive chart. They did a pumpkin investigation by describing the pumpkin, estimating how many seeds were in the pumpkin, and then counting the seeds using ten frames.
