Program Spotlight: Wrestling Program
During our Program Spotlight portion of our March Board Meeting, our wrestling program presented information about their program, athletes in attendance, and highlights of the season.
Coach Justin Wisdom, head wrestling coach, presented the information. His assistant, Coach Charlie Daleske, was in attendance as well. Coach Wisdom wanted to thank everyone that has helped the program this year from volunteer coaches, parents, and community members.
At the meeting, he was able to recognize some of the wrestlers in the program.
Hudson Karr - Senior Team Captain for us this season…he recorded 37 wins this year…2 tournament Championships and is also involved in Football, Cross Country, and Track
Jayce Estes - Freshman who recorded 35 wins this season…he recorded 5 Tournament Championship including and Conference and District Championship…Jayce was one of our State Qualifiers this season falling just 1 win short of claiming a state medal
Skylon Boone - Junior who recorded 35 victories this season and 2 tournament championships…she became the first female State Qualifier for the Wildcats since MSHSAA Sanctioned Girls Wrestling in 2018…Skylon runs track as well
Brecken Brewster - 7th Grader…he was 4th on the middle school team in wins this season and a Conference Champion…Brecken is also a member of the Football and Baseball Programs.
Easton Bagley - 6th Grader…he was 2nd on the MS team in wins this season and he was also a conference champion. Easton is also a member of the Baseball and Football programs.
Emmersyn Miskel - 7th Grader…she recorded 21 victories this past season which led the MS girls team…she only lost 2 matches all season…unfortunately she injured her ankle and was unable to compete in the Conference Tourney…Emmersyn also plays Softball
Here are some highlights from the season as well:
JBMS Season Highlights
- Numbers doubled in size…we had a total of 25 wrestlers…13
boys and 12 girls
- From the 6:00am workouts on Friday mornings to the normal
practices after school, all of the kids showed growth not only in
their wrestling but in their commitment and maturity
- We hosted a JBMS Scramble with 5 other teams on December
5th which was great for our student-athletes
- Capping off the season with a boys Conference Team
Championship and the Girls team finishing in 2nd…we were able to host that event as well which made it even more special for the kids
- The excitement we witnessed during and after the season is
very promising for the future of JBMS Wrestling.
WHS Season Highlights
- We hosted a really cool event for our senior night at the Community
Building downtown on December 8th which made for a great atmosphere and we had a fantastic crowd
- We also hosted our Warsaw Invitational on January 14th…the
community showed great support there and the boys took 2nd
place as a team
- 5-3 Dual record…over the previous 5 years the wrestling
program had only won 7 duals combined
- Our four girls brought home medals from all 6 of their regular
season tournaments
- Our boys earned 38 individual medals and claimed 13 individual
championships during the regular season
- There were 3 boys ranked in the top 6 in the state for over half
the year & 2 girls that were mentioned in the rankings as well.
- School history was made. The boys won the first ever
Conference Championship and the girls qualified the first ever
girl for the Girls State Championships.
- We had 5 Wildcats represent us very well at the State
Championships, Jayce Estes(District Champion), Nick Bagley(District Champion), Drake Murrell(District Runner-UP), Josh Harvath, and Skylon Boone
- Nick Bagley Claimed 3rd place at 150lbs at the State
Tournament which was the first state medal the Wildcats have won since 2019 (Believe that makes Nick All-State in 2 different sports 1st Team Baseball last year)
Overall our Wildcat Wrestling program had a ton of excitement in it this season…from our Youth (which had almost 60 kids in it this year) to JBMS and into the HS. We are very proud of all of our kids top to bottom. We felt like from the administration, school personnel, and other community members we had a great following and support group this season. We would like to thank everyone for their support and look forward to the future years of positive impact coming from our Wildcat Wrestling program.
