Today, our district responded to a real safety concern that required a lockdown. We are happy to report that staff and students responded quickly and followed established safety protocols to help keep everyone safe.
As planned, this week our district will also conduct important safety drills for fire, tornado, and lockdown response. These drills give students and staff the opportunity to practice how to respond safely in an emergency.
Your student may come home talking about today’s events or the upcoming drills, or may have questions. We encourage you to listen, reassure them, and remind them that practice helps us stay prepared.

We are happy to report that the lockdowns have been lifted, and no threat to the school was found.

For additional precaution, we have put all schools on soft lockdown. Soft lockdown is where school operates as normal but no outside recess and exterior doors are locked.
We have already move to a soft lock down at the High School and JMBS campus.
All students and staff are safe. We received phone call that we are investigating. Our high school and JBMS school is currently in lockdown while SROs investigate.
📢 JBMS Cross Country Practice Update
JBMS Cross Country practice today (8/31) will be from 3:00–4:15 p.m. at Warsaw High School (not the Harbor as originally scheduled).
Please drop athletes off at the WHS cafeteria entrance. Athletes should be prepared to alternate between indoor and outdoor activities throughout practice.
Pick-up: 4:15 p.m. outside the WHS cafeteria.

📣 New for the 2026–2027 School Year: ParentSquare!
As we begin a new school year, we’re excited to introduce ParentSquare, our new parent-teacher communication platform for families across Warsaw R-IX. ParentSquare replaces the previously used Remind platform and provides families, teachers, and coaches who choose to use it with a convenient way to stay connected.
📱 Families should have received an invitation to join ParentSquare. Your student’s teacher should automatically be connected to you through the platform.
To make sure you receive messages, please ensure you are using the email address and phone number your school has on file.
ℹ️ ParentSquare replaces Remind for parent-teacher communication, but it DOES NOT replace the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or the Warsaw R-IX app. Families should continue using those platforms as they normally do.

A big welcome to our newest faculty! Today was their first official day as Wildcats! 🐾
They spent the day with our administrative team and mentors learning what it means to be a Wildcat, while getting settled into their buildings and classrooms before the rest of our staff returns tomorrow for districtwide back-to-school PD. #WildcatPride
Friendly reminder: 5th & 6th Grade Orientation will take place at 5:45 p.m. in the JBMS Gym during Open House this Thursday, 8/20. All 5th & 6th grade families are encouraged to attend to learn what to expect as students enter JBMS.

🏀 Meet Mr. Hernandez — our new Social Studies Teacher at JBMS! 🏀
We’re excited to welcome Mr. Hernandez to the Warsaw R-IX faculty! He graduated from the University of Central Missouri after previously attending Oak Grove High School. As a first-year teacher, he gained experience through practicums across K-12 grade levels as well as student teaching at both the secondary and elementary levels.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Hernandez will serve as an Assistant High School Boys Basketball Coach. He is a big sports fan who enjoys baseball, basketball, football, and recently started playing golf. He also enjoys working out, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends. 🏀⚾️🏈
Mr. Hernandez is excited to begin his teaching career in Warsaw after hearing great things about the district from former teachers who have worked here. He looks forward to meeting new people, building connections, and helping students learn and become excited about learning.

Mrs. Smith is excited to teach at Warsaw because she has always felt connected to the community. She is especially looking forward to working alongside her mom and cousin!

She is excited to step into the classroom and continue supporting the students and community she has come to know and love.
Mrs. Sanders believes every student deserves to feel seen, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. She is especially excited to teach many students she already knows while also getting to know new faces and building new relationships.
Outside of school, Mrs. Sanders enjoys spending time with her husband and their five children, ages 9 months to 14 years old. You can often find her cheering her kids on at a ball field or volleyball court. She also enjoys restoring furniture and getting creative in her home upholstery shop. 🏐⚾️🛠️

After graduation, he had the opportunity to continue coaching football at SBU before beginning his teaching career.
