BOARD MEETING OVERVIEW FEBRUARY 2026

The Warsaw R-IX Board of Education met February 18, 2026 for its regular monthly meeting.

The meeting began with student, staff, and community recognitions. The recipients included Braden Henderson, Warsaw High School senior – Student Spotlight; Jessica Whitney – Classified Staff Member of the Month; Heather Bagley – Certified Staff Member of the Month; and The Locker Room – Wildcat Pride Award recipient. 

Program Spotlights

The Board heard a presentation from K–5 teachers highlighting instructional practices and student learning initiatives across the elementary grade levels. Assistant Superintendent Shannon Deckard also presented an overview of the district’s Title I program, including services and support provided to eligible students and families.

Budget & Financial Updates

Superintendent Scott Gemes reviewed the January budget report and year-to-date financials.

Other New Business & Board Approvals

The Board approved the 2026–2027 school year calendar and May 21, 2026 as the graduation date for the Class of 2026. Summer School 2026 dates were approved for May 26 through June 19 (Tuesday–Friday schedule).

The Board approved the purchase of two used gasoline buses — a 2022 Blue Bird and a 2024 Blue Bird — and declared two 2003 International buses as surplus. Additional information regarding the bidding process for the surplus buses will be shared soon.

The Board approved employee health insurance, certified salary schedule & classified salary schedule for the upcoming school year. 

Facility improvements approved include the North Elementary roof bid, to be completed after summer school, and the South Elementary sewer bid, with work scheduled during the summer months.

The Board also approved surplus technology items.

Personnel Updates

During closed session, the Board accepted the retirement of two staff members, effective at the end of the 2025–2026 school year. The Board also accepted multiple resignations and approved several new hires. Additionally, all returning administrators received a one-year contract extension.

The next regular meeting of the Warsaw R-IX Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the HS/JBMS Library.
